A Poem for National Poetry Month: Sing a Song of Colony

Today's poem. Yes, there was a poem, yesterday, but it didn't make it onto the blog. Things were a bit busy. It will be in the next poetry anthology, though, so keep an eye out for that towards the end of this year, or the beginning of next. In the meantime, I played with the start of an old nursery rhyme, and wondered what form it might find in a future where star travel and colonisation was a regular 'thing'. Sing a Song of Colony Sing a song of sixpence, sing a song of flying high sing a song of airfares of dreams up in the sky. Sing a song of pennies of dollars not well spent sing a song of dreams lost of hulls swift-breached and rent. Sing a song of credits of cash in bits and bytes, of journeys made at long last of planetfall and sight. Sing a song of new homes of colonies ‘neath stars people making new lives from our Earth travelled far.
