The Dragon Shines Written on January 1, 2019, for the March 31 entry of Another 365 Days of Poetry , this piece of blank versed fantasy proved tricky. I’d been trying to avoid dragons as a theme, but couldn’t help it; I love the subject. Blank verse, on the other hand is difficult for me, because I like to rhyme. This is my first blank verse for a while. Scales a-gleaming, the dragon shines. Beneath the full moon, silver-dipped, it flies, seeking prey in lands below. First to feed, and then to feast, it hunts and from thence ‘t’will search for other prey, the thieves whom from its hoard did steal, seeking wealth without the need to work, despite the dangers of journey long and the guardian whom at its end did wait.
