Wednesday's Verse - Last Minute Repairs

Image
This week’s verse moves from a science fiction verse about solar starships to a fantasy verse about emergency repairs to a sleigh. It is taken from 366 Days of Poetry , a collection of mixed-genre poetry released in 2016. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------   Last Minute Repairs I looked upon the sleigh and knew that Christmas just might well be through. Unless the runner could be fixed, this evening’s delivery would be nixed, so I set out with axe and chainsaw, and skiddoo and tower and hoped that thaw would not set in at all too soon, for across the lake was the best of ash cured and stored and ready at last. If I had to go round, two days it would take, and never would these deliveries he make. I hurried, harnessed up the dogs, headed out in the morning fog, reached the shed by late afternoon, brought back the timber by the light of the moon, repair

Tuesday's Short - Seppelitus

Image
This week’s short story takes us from a science fiction story where a new threat is detected and new defenders emerge to a dark fantasy tale of gargoyles, assassins, demons, treachery, and destiny. Welcome to Seppelitus . Being a bodyguard isn’t easy, not even when you’re the seventh son in a long line of seventh sons, not even when the magic comes when you call—and especially not when the man you are protecting is a treacherous, lecherous spoilt son of wealth and privilege, who betrays you for a pretty girl. Transported to the far north, Seppelitus must extricate himself from a deal between gargoyles, ogres and a demon lord, and then work out what he’s going to do about the dragon. Seppelitus is available as a stand-alone short story at the following links: books2read.com/u/mV7rNA . You can also find Kristine Kathryn Rusch's latest free short story over on her blog: kriswrites.com . Why don't you go and check it out?

LAST WEEK, Simone arrived back at the lab to find Tiger had disappeared. This week, she reveals she knows where he is, and just how unhappy she is about it. Chapter 14 Excerpt – Beast and Human Combined Tiger? They finally explained what happened to you. And I’m not happy. They weren’t going to, but, when they came to take me to my new quarters on Moon Base 49, I refused to leave your lab. We had quite an argument. They sent Pritchard, Agent Delight, and Hunter Haskell to come fetch me, so I just sat up on one of the benches and wouldn’t come down. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The complete series is available as short, individual ebooks, and will become available as an omnibus, later this year. In the meantime, you can find them on this blog, until one week after the last chapter in the last book of the series has been posted, at which point this series will be taken down, and a new series seriali
