What I am Watching - Rise of the Planet of Apes

All I have to say about this movie is "Oh, wow." I picked this dvd up from Woolworths, today and we watched it tonight. Link to site: http://www.riseoftheplanetoftheapes.com/ I started out by working in another room and watching through a doorway. I ended up standing behind the couch with my mouth hanging open. What I saw was a beautifully crafted story that gives a credible backstory to The Planet of the Apes and which pulled me to the figurative edge of the seat, and had me seeing the points of view from both the human and the ape points of view. I will be watching it again, tomorrow, possibly more than once.

Formatting complete. An Anthology of Battle has been uploaded to Smashwords and Kindle and should soon be available for purchase.

An Anthology of Battle now has a cover

Image
All I have to do is the formatting for Kindle and Smashwords and it will be ready for upload. Now that the shopping and lunching has been done and I have done some digging in the garden, formatting is the first priority.

First Paragraphs from An Anthology of Dragons—‘The Duel’

Image
‘The Duel’ is my second foray into high fantasy. It was written in 1999 as an act of rebellion against claims you shouldn’t start fantasy stories in an inn. It starts like this: Ollie lifted a handful of foaming tankards as the inn door opened. His brown eyes picked out the expensive cut of the newcomer’s clothing as he raised the tankards in brief greeting, then set them on the bar .   can be found in An Anthology of Dragons has been uploaded to both Smashwords and Kindle, and is awaiting release.

First Paragraphs from An Anthology of Battle—‘A Window on Salukia’

Image
‘A Window on Salukia’ was written in 1996. It is the second story in An Anthology of Battle and is 3,000 words long. It is currently available for stand-alone purchase, and it starts like this: We have been watching for centuries, observing many worlds, many ages, many times. We have been watching, trying to learn and understand, trying to avoid the mistakes of other civilisations. An Anthology of Battle is scheduled for upload to Kindle and Smashwords between the 22 nd and 26 th of May, 2012.

First Paragraphs from An Anthology of Dragons—‘Everything has its Price’

Image
‘Everything has its Price’ is a short piece of high fantasy. It was written way back in 1996 as my first foray into writing short fantasy fiction. It starts like this: “And what would you offer for a place by our fire?” the merchant-guildsman demanded. I let my eyes travel doubtfully over his portly, dust-covered frame and ignored the knight who had ridden up behind me.   can be  found in An Anthology of Dragons has been uploaded to both Smashwords and Kindle, and is awaiting release.

First Paragraphs from An Anthology of Battle—‘A Vignette for Rashkah’

Image
‘A Vignette for Rashkah’ was written way back in 1995 and updated in 2011. It is the first story in An Anthology of Battle and is 1,200 words long. It is currently available for stand-alone purchase, and it starts like this: Rashkah shifted uncomfortably against the back wall of the hut, watching as her mother laid her head once more on her brother’s dead chest. Rashkah's mother's tears were quiet now, the only sign of her grief the occasional heave of her body as she sobbed without sound. Her fingers traced the badge on the corpse’s uniform, then the familiar lines of its face now frozen in the awful peace of death. An Anthology of Battle is scheduled for upload to Kindle and Smashwords between the 22 nd and 26 th of May, 2012.

First Paragraphs from An Anthology of Dragons—‘Dragon Coast’

Image
‘Dragon Coast’ is a short piece of speculative, near-future paranormal fiction. It was written way back in 1994 for a local library competition. It starts like this: Critics described ‘Dragon Coast’ as “a vibrant, young company whose flamboyant style in garment design had already won the minds of the rich and famous”. Jessica saw the description and dismissed it with a snort.     can be found in    An Anthology of Dragons has been uploaded to both Smashwords and Kindle, and is awaiting release.
