Wednesday's Verse - Life's Not Fair When You're Five

Image
This week’s verse moves from a fantasy renga about a stranger in need, to a poem about a five-year-old watching her mum go to work. It is taken from 366 Days of Poetry , a collection of mixed-genre poetry released in 2016. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------   Life's Not Fair When You're Five My baby is crying on the seat of the lounge. Nothing, however, prepares him for what the children do when they meet the spider queen. The Magicians & the Silk Road is available as a stand-alone short story at the following links: books2read.com/u/mZwWY2 . You can also find Kristine Kathryn Rusch's latest free short story over on her blog: kriswrites.com . Why don't you go and check it out?

Chapter 8 (Excerpt) – Answers & Oops Wow, Simone! That is some letter! Firstly, I can’t get Odyssey and Redstone to evacuate. They absolutely, point-blank refused—and, this time, I think they actually agreed with each other. Neither of them wants to leave. They both said we had to see the experiment through. And, yes, I raised all your points with them. I told them about not knowing the numbers we could expect in an incursion, or the weapons, or how the aliens fight. I asked how many they sent to Deskeden, or Tarvesh, and no-one gave me any answers. The only good thing that came out of it was that the security detail started to look worried. I’ve done enough digging to know that, when these guys get worried, they go and do something about it. They’ll be digging, even if th...
