Wednesday's Verse - Life's Not Fair When You're Five

This week’s verse moves from a fantasy renga about a stranger in need, to a poem about a five-year-old watching her mum go to work. It is taken from 366 Days of Poetry, a collection of mixed-genre poetry released in 2016.

Life's Not Fair When You're Five

My baby is crying

on the seat of the lounge.

It’s the fourth day

that I’ve run away,

and left her feeling down

And while she isn’t little,

as a baby in a cot,

five still isn’t very old,

if your mummy leaves a lot,

especially when you’re used

to having her about;

it really isn’t very nice

when your mummy leaves you out.
