Mack 'n' Me #6 - Writing Update #7

Image
So, yesterday, Mack 6 reached 48,000 words. Now, this should be over the half-way mark, and I think it is, but we'll see. The journey continues. Here's an excerpt from yesterday's words: Words from Day 10 (Chapter 21): “We weren’t going to stop.” Mikalesket had joined us, again. “Well, we are, now,” Mack told him. “We took a hit.” “I know. We scanned your system.” “And?” If Mack was surprised the lizardine were monitoring the ship that closely, he didn’t show it. “The repairs are important.” “And the engines?” “They will need a little longer to recalibrate. The repair stop will not interrupt the process.” Mack nodded and looked back to his boards. Mikalesket returned to his position at the back of the command center, and I realized he looked like he was alone. I narrowed my eyes, wondering exactly how many of his security team had accompanied him, and were now scattered around the command center. Mack glanced at me, and then glanced around, fixing the liz...

Thursday's Thoughts: Two Years of Disrupted Writing - and an Update on Mack 'n' Me: The Wolves of Alpha 9

Mac k 'n' Me: The Transporter's Favour is Book 4 in the Mack 'n' Me 'n' Odyssey series. Mack 'n' Me: The Wolves of Alpha 9 is Book 5. According to Transporter's , Wolves was supposed to be released in January 2019, something it was on track to do, until my world slid sideways and then got busy in June 2018... ...which was when I went in to have a skin lesion checked - and then removed. It turned out to be precancerous, with me receiving that news on the same day my mum told me she'd been diagnosed with terminal cancer and wasn' t expected to see Christmas. That was pretty devastating. A week later, the doctor called and told me they hadn't removed the lesion properly and would have to reopen the nearly healed wound. Fantastic... especially when the second incision almost healed only to reopen a couple of hours after the stitches were taken out. Not so great. I followed that with a week of the flu and then gave myself a case of Tenn...

Tuesday’s Short—Cloud Door

Image
This week’s short story takes us from wolves escaping from the moon, to some humans escaping from some wolves, as Mack and Cutter try to get themselves out of yet another sticky situation. Welcome to Cloud Door. So, we’ve done this job, and I’m checking our tails are clear, and I find they’re not—and then I find the only way to kick clear is to find the Cloud Door. Only trouble is the Cloud Door’s a legend, and Mack? Well, he’s not too fond of chasing legends. Fortunately, this one’s a no-brainer: we want to live, and that’s got to be enough to make anyone chase a legend, right? Cloud Door is available as a stand-alone short story at the following links: books2read.com/u/bQZGLd . You can also find Kristine Kathryn Rusch's latest free short story over on her blog: kriswrites.com . Why don't you go and check it out?

First Words for Sunday, September 16, 2018—Mack ‘n’ Me: The Wolves of Alpha 9

Last week, I had some good news. It was awesome, but, combined with the short story I prioritised, and a rental inspection—because it never rains, but it pours—it meant a lot of reshuffling, and I didn’t get any words down on Mack ‘n’ Me: The Wolves of Alpha 9 .This was okay, and I caught up the words on Sunday this week… but completely missed it on Monday as I got my head around what to do for a short story release done as part of a group, a short story acceptance, and getting ready to visit my mum. Like I said—rain, pouring—and I’m enjoying the challenge. So excuses aside, when I started the words on Sunday, Cutter ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the end, Rohan let the cub go, and it was just Tens and one very angry wolfling. I’ll give the Tens this, once the cub took him off his feet, again, he at least remembered he was dealing with a child—a very tough child, who was beating twenty kinds of crap out of his face, but one that was barely...
