‘A Window on Salukia’ was written in 1996. It is the second story in An Anthology of Battle and is 3,000 words long. It is currently available for stand-alone purchase, and it starts like this:
We have been watching for centuries, observing many worlds, many ages, many times. We have been watching, trying to learn and understand, trying to avoid the mistakes of other civilisations.
