Tuesday's Short - Stiletto's Luck

Image
This week’s short story takes us from an urban fantasy world of vampire and werewolf politics to a fantasy world where one roguish assassin must learn to deal with angels. Welcome to Stiletto's Luck .   They could have called him Scimitar, Blade or Dagger, but, no, his parents had to call him Stiletto. Stiletto did the only thing he could. He learned to be the best at what he did, and he learned to walk tall - without the heels. But the angels? They couldn’t care less about that—and Stiletto’s come to their attention. Can he avoid becoming embroiled in their plans? Stiletto's Luck is available as a stand-alone short story at the following links: https://www.amazon.com/Stilettos-Luck-C-M-Simpson-ebook/dp/B00EWYMG0C/ . What happened to you knowing how I felt about keeping everyone safe? Or not letting me face this on my own? What happened to that? And what’s all this about kicking my tail? Pretty sure you don’t want to do that. You love me, remember? You and your Hunter. I’m pack. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The complete series is available as short, individual ebooks, and will become available as an omnibus, later this year. Wednesday's Verse - Allies in the Deep Night

Image
This week’s verse moves from a fantasy poem about some emergency repairs for a sleigh to a fantasy verse about trolls and dragons. It is taken from 366 Days of Poetry , a collection of mixed-genre poetry released in 2016. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------   Allies in the Deep Night Deep in the shadows, the dragons are sleeping, noses tucked under tails, muffling their snores. Deep in the shadows, the cave trolls come creeping, move quietly and quickly, on stone-rattled claws. Deep under the blankets, the villagers are dreaming, hoping to gather the harvest, before the snow falls. Deep in the night, first comes the screaming, then comes the rattle of armour and swords. Lit by the torchlight, village defenders are fighting, shouting and cursing, in the face of troll roars. Lit by the gold gleam, the dragons wake, sighing come to the cave mouth, ...

Wednesday's Verse - Last Minute Repairs

Image
This week’s verse moves from a science fiction verse about solar starships to a fantasy verse about emergency repairs to a sleigh. It is taken from 366 Days of Poetry , a collection of mixed-genre poetry released in 2016. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------   Last Minute Repairs I looked upon the sleigh and knew that Christmas just might well be through. Unless the runner could be fixed, this evening’s delivery would be nixed, so I set out with axe and chainsaw, and skiddoo and tower and hoped that thaw would not set in at all too soon, for across the lake was the best of ash cured and stored and ready at last. If I had to go round, two days it would take, and never would these deliveries he make. I hurried, harnessed up the dogs, headed out in the morning fog, reached the shed by late afternoon, brought back the timber by the light of the moon, re...
