First Paragraphs from An Anthology of Battle—‘Jacob’s Vision’

‘Jacob’s Vision’ was written in 1996 and given a slight polish before being added to this anthology. It is the third story in An Anthology of Battle and is 5,000 words long. It is currently available for stand-alone purchase, and it starts like this:
The hill, with its footing of green-studded black, was the same as I remembered it. I stood at the top of the ridge looking out, seeing the city ruins, imagining the glow from its center at night.

An Anthology of Battle is now available on Smashwords and  Kindle.
