Wednesday's Verse - Santa's Homecoming
This week’s verse moves from a poem of Christmas wishes to a Christmas acrostic about Santa's return home. It is taken from 366 Days of Poetry, a
collection of mixed-genre poetry released in 2016.

Far overhead, ceases the
ringing of bellS.
The sleigh has stopped flying,
oh dear-A.
Released are the reindeer to
forage for licheN
guarded by werewolves who keep
safe the besT,
eating only the weakest, the
sickest, oh dearA.
The sleigh driver steps down,
and yawnS,
as the elves stow the sleigh,
and give it a wasH.
With the deer in the field, he
calls it a day-O,
and stumbles inside to the
fire and the warM.
His wife greets him gently,
guides him to the tablE,
and the supper, beside next
year’s almanaC,
so he sighs, and he reads,
and, then, oh dear-O,
he yawns, and she takes him to
bed, and to dreaM.
When they wake in the morning,
it’s back to the workshop, oh dear-I,
for there is no respite,
although Christmas has beeN,
and, next year, he’ll be ready
to repeat the gifting, and ensure the sleigh bells will rinG.
