Wednesday's Verse - A Houseful of Secrets

This week’s verse moves from  a science-fiction verse about a corporate debt collecting take-over to a slightly eerie verse about a house with secrets. It is taken from Another 365 Days of Poetry, a collection of mixed-genre poetry released in 2019.

A Houseful of Secrets

I would not whisper if I were you; I would not even speak.

I would close my eyes tight-shut, and I would not risk a peek.

I would not risk a peek, no matter what I heard,

not even when something touched me.

I would pray that it passed by.

For this old house is ancient.

This house its secrets keeps,

and I would keep my eyes tight-closed

in the hope that I would wake, when once I’d gone to sleep.

You can find the first two poetry collections at the links below - although there are plans to reissue them with more genre-appropriate covers in the future. The third collection will be released later in the year.
