Words from Days 31-32 of Writing - Lunar Wolves: The Unwanted

The last section of this book was written over two days...but there was a LOT of time in between them and Day 30, where I switched to give a work-for-hire project the priority it needed. Days 31 and 32 occurred as I wound up that project and began to write a short story for a collection of dragon stories.

Excerpt: in which Oliver and Lewis put their fitness training to good use:

“Don’t stop!” Oliver barked, when Lewis slowed, intending to do just that. “Thirty seconds. We can keep out of claw range until then.”

It was more an order than a request, and Lewis barked an affirmative.

Belle stumbled and Lewis dropped the blaster in favor of grabbing her so Oliver didn’t have to come back for her. His efforts earned him a warning growl, but he ignored it, wrapping an arm around Belle’s waist and dragging her back into the alpha’s reach.

Oliver hit a stone and almost went down. A shout of discovery sounded behind them and more howls rose, this time accompanied by yips of impending victory.

“It’s nice to see we’re making someone happy,” Belle gasped, and Oliver tightened his grip.

“Shut up and run!”

The She raised her head, and twisted to look at Lewis.

“Give me your gun,” she ordered, and he frowned.

“I dropped it.”

Her lips twisted with scorn. “Not that gun. Your other gun. You do carry more than one, don’t you?”

He did, but it was still tucked securely in its body pouch and he’d have to stop to get it…and there was no way he was going to do tha—

So, this little guy nearly bought it when I caught it eating the still-forming buds on my Robyn grevillea, but then I thought I might like to see which particular butterfly was responsible, so I took some pictures and decided to keep an eye on it, so I knew when it pupated. Same day, but it was one of those cloudy days with variegated light. PokemonGo Tips - Earning the Berry Master Medal

Another relatively easy one to earn, but it takes time. Main tip? Feed Them All. Well, okay, it's a bit more like this: Only the berries you feed to a pokemon in a gym count. You can only feed berries to pokemon in a gym that belongs to your team. You can feed up to a maximum of 10 berries to each pokemon. You can feed any pokemon that belongs to a team member, as well as your own. You can feed your team's pokemon from home, as long as you have a pokemon in the same gym - as last week's post showed. It's interesting, but really annoying if you accidentally feed a golden razzberry to a pokemon in a gym... just sayin'. Sometimes, not having a berry on hand to help catch a pokemon is also annoying - especially when you've just fed all yours to your team's pokemon - so think about that before you go all out stuffing their faces; the medal is pretty, but catching stuff is cool, too. The Great Publishing Challenge: 6 Down, 6 to Go

This month, I nearly didn't make it. I'd gotten sick, gotten distracted by changes in other things I was doing, gotten a little depressed because things weren't actually working, and was in a bit of an overall funk as I worked out how to change direction and get moving again. At the beginning of November I guesstimated I had around 20,000 words to go on it in the 100 or so pieces of flash I needed to write to finish the book...and then the forward and the author's notes on top of that. I just wanted to give it up...but I didn't. I got to work to see if I really could manage not to fail, this time, and still do a good job.
