What's it About?

Odyssey is everywhere and nowhere, a set of vigilante mercenaries masquerading as a cruise line company, they do their best to keep the worst of the elements in the universe in check. Whether it be protecting the original inhabitants of newly discovered worlds, rescuing kidnapped kids or assets, or stopping slave traders and world breakers in their tracks, the company does its best to bring justice to a universe where nothing’s ever as simple as it seems. Their agents come in many guises, and Delight is their most famous. These stories take us on a tour through the underside of life among the stars, revealing a little of the company’s dealings, its origins and operations and its people.

As promised, an extract.

This one is from one of the exclusive short stories to be found in this volume, 'Operation Safehouse':

Gereg woke slowly, mouth dry and feeling like he’d been run over by a…a what… He lay still, limbs leaden, body feeling…’wrong’…like he had too little on his chest and too much in his trousers. Opening his eyes, he winced at the light.

“Anyone get the make of that wagon?” he managed, his voice rasping.

It wasn’t just his mouth that was dry.

The ceiling was unfamiliar, so he pushed himself upright…or tried to. Brisk movement brought an unfamiliar face into view, and a hand on his chest.

“Easy there, son. You’ve had quite the arrival.”

The hand was probably meant to encourage him to lie back down, but Gereg ignored the pressure and sat, blinking at the man standing before him. He blinked and the man’s face swam into focus.

“I have?”

A secondary image overlaid the room, information on the man he was seeing. It didn’t obscure the view but it was annoying nonetheless. According to the UI—and where he’d ever learned that term, he didn’t know, but apparently he’d just ‘met’ Bandrik, a cleric for Jorandar, goddess of…adventurers?

Say what? Blinking the information panel away, Gereg frowned, but the cleric was already explaining.

“Falling from one of the skyships?” Bandrik asked. “Yes, quite the arrival. It’s a miracle you weren’t killed!”

“Miracle…” Gereg repeated weakly, feeling something had gone colossally wrong, and that the skyship was the least of his troubles.
