A Hero’s Strife Foretold

Riven

From hearth and hold

From family and friends

In a long-lived journey that was

Foretold

Driven

From home and kin

From the familiar

And accused of this the most dark

Of sins

Striven

To next redeem

A life thought lost, hope reamed

Through ev’ry step, and ev’ry strife,

Peace dreamed

Free Read: Forest Connections

Today, I managed to settle down and write a response to the latest flash fiction challenge on Chuck Wendig's Terribleminds blog - The Dead Body . There were only two rules: the word limit was 1,000, and the story had to open with a dead body. This is what came out: Forest Connections The body swayed in the trees rocked by storm winds and illuminated by lightning. It was naked, except for the green, leather gloves it wore on both hands—the hands from which it was suspended from the tree. It might have been an attractive body, if there hadn’t been a gaping wound where its stomach should be. Perhaps… but Garamond wasn’t looking at the body, didn’t notice the slender hips or sculpted chest, the beauty of fine-chiselled cheek bones or luxurious fall of hair. Garamond fought his breakfast back into place, swallowed bile, forced his focus to the other trees in the grove, the ground onto which he’d nearly stepped. Time for an update. As you can imagine, I've been struggling a bit. I'm still sad at mum's loss, and working through other things that I have to prepare for in the not-far-enough-away future, and regrets...still the regrets at taking a chance on trusting someone, and being let down - again, which will take some time to work through. Despite all of that, I'm slowly getting things together, and working out what my path forward looks like. In short, it looks lumpy...but not impossible. In the meantime, here's where I'm at, since Saturday's post: On the YOUTUBE VIDEO GAME-PLAY front , I'm slowly catching up on the backlog and am now processing and scheduling videos just over a week ahead. As a result, I can now reward channel members with early access to videos as I schedule them.
