First Words - Wednesday, March 19, 2025

As most of you know, I work across several projects at once, and as many of you know, I've had trouble writing since making a difficult change in early 2024, and having to re-find my feet, amidst a flurry of Life events that made gaining traction difficult. Am I back? I don't know, but here are today's first words, regardless.

Project 1: Strays of Lunar 1, Book 5 - The Uncooperative

“I’m sorry, boss,” Lewis was as hang-dog as Oliver could have wished.

Oliver clapped him on the shoulder, and the man flinched, ducking his head but keeping his eyes on Oliver’s face. It was as submissive a gesture as his human form would allow.

Oliver gestured to the damage around them.

“You will be. I’m taking the damage out of your cut.”

Lewis rolled his eyes, and Oliver bared his teeth, partly in amusement, and partly as a warning. Lewis hung his head, then rolled his shoulders.

“So, what’s next?” he asked, and Oliver glanced at the one camera he could see.

Project 2: Ransomeeers, Book 4 - A Planet's Debt

It probably should have, given what we’d found at New Haven. We knew the yvernatch handlers sometimes intervened on their charges’ behalf. I wondered if this drop might have had the same support.

“But how would they even know?”
