Just Released: Tischa's Rescue, 2nd Edition

In an urban-fantasy world where magic has newly returned, crime adapts...and policing must adapt to fit, but that is not the focus of this story. In this story, a teenager from the poorer part of town tries to escape, after stumbling across a new form of criminal activity. That is the story told in Tischa's Rescue. What's it About?

Pursued through the forest, Tischa tries to make good her escape from the dust runners, but someone pursues, and they are closing. Can she hope to reach safety in time…and what can she do to save the mice?

How Does It Start?

Tischa Brock ran, stumbling over tree roots and clumps of rocks, recoiling from low-hanging branches and tendrils of Spanish moss. She ran through the night, blessing the faint glimmer that was a bare path in the middle of an overgrown piece of parkland. Even when tree-shadow obscured the way, Tischa could look ahead to the next bare piece of walking track.

She tried not to think about what would happen if she stopped running, if the men from the warehouse were to find her gone, and follow before she could reach a shop or a school or a fire station. There was only one track through the parkland separating the industrial district from the nearest suburb. She wouldn’t be hard to find.

At first, she didn’t register the sound of quiet footsteps pacing beside her through the trees, or the rustle of underbrush as something large made a path for itself. She didn’t see the faint sparks of light that flew too low to be stars, or hear the shimmer of tiny voices on the evening breeze. She only cared about getting as far away as she could from where she had been held. She thought nothing of what might be lurking in the night.
