Progress Report Week 3 April 2012

I’m still working on the last story for Anthology2. It is now over 10,000 words long—the length I wanted for the entire anthology. I guess folks are going to get their money’s worth out of this collection. The story is working well. It’s tending to hit dead spots, and then I write the section after the dead spot and I’m able to go back and make the two flow together. None of my other stories have worked this way. It’s kind of interesting to watch. Anyway, I’m checking for drag and unneeded words, but so far, so good. I’ll even be able to use the ending I originally envisaged.

Current Projects:

These are in the current priority order, which represents the order I tackle things in any given day. I usually only get to the first two projects on this list on any given day. The order will change as contracts in the ‘on hold’ list are signed, edits and playtest deadlines received. The daily ‘quota’ is either 1,000 words or a full chapter revised.
Completed:
I’ve had the flu since Monday, but picked up yesterday afternoon. Nil completed.
On-Going:
CrimeNovel1: Nil progress.
RomanceNovel1: Nil progress.
ShortStory7: has reached 10,000 words, a total of 2,000 words added over the week.
Hold Pending:
As these projects rely on outside permissions being received, they have not progressed. If the permissions are still outstanding at the end of the month, they will go on hold.
Adventures3 & 4: Round 2 of outline edits still with editor for approval. No go ahead has been given for the writing.
ShortStory1, Adventure2 and Project1: Contract still not returned by publisher for use of rules system.
Started:
This week I started transcribing my literature essays, when I couldn’t write creatively due to the flu, but also couldn’t sleep. EssayCollection1 will focus on analysis of young adult fiction. EssayCollection2 will focus on the analysis of children’s picture books. Only one essay and comment transcribed—flu, not a lot got done. I like literature analysis, and will do more, but this project is long-term. The anthologies and novels have a higher priority.

Projects on ‘Hold’:

All Projects-on-hold remain static.

Backburner Projects:

All Backburner Projects remain static.

New Arrivals:

These are ideas that occur to me while I work on other things. I write them down until I reach the point they require conscious, planned effort, and then stop and return to the project at hand.

EssayCollection1: will be a collection of analytical essays based in young adult fiction. Completed length should be around 15,000 words.
EssayCollection2: will be a collection of analytical essays based on children’s picture books.
LiteratureStudy1: not much I can say about this without giving it away. A look at genre literature.
