NaNoWriMo 2016 Update

Yeah, I know; it would probably have been more interesting if I’d started posting these earlier, but I was kinda busy, so it didn’t happen. I’ll try and do better next year. Anyway, I decided to try NaNoWriMo this year, despite not completing it last year. Here’s what’s happened, so far:

Project Title: Shades of Memory

Project Blurb: When Aggie Dormain arrives in Canberra to paint some old diggers, she does not expect to meet an out-of-work archaeologist investigating an alien conspiracy, much less to be pulled into an adventure that would give Indiana Jones a run for his money.

Project Description: A crime noir novel of between 50,000 and 60,000 words set in an urban fantasy world, where conspiracy theories have some validity and maybe a bit of a thriller as well.

Progress so Far:

November 1-3: Nil words on Shades; take-home exam started, completed and submitted;
November 4: 5,146 words completed on NaNo novel;
November 5-8: Nil words on Shades; take-home essay in lieu of exam completed and submitted, and take-home exam received, started, completed and submitted;
November 9: 4,179 words completed; NaNo novel total: 9,325;
November 10: 2,782 words completed; NaNo novel total: 12,107;
November 11: 4,012 words completed; NaNo novel total: 16,119;
November 12: 8,210 words completed; NaNo novel total: 20,317;
November 13: 2,272 words completed; NaNo novel total: 22,589;
November 14-15: 0 words completed on NaNo novel; other projects progressed;
November 16: 755 words completed; NaNo novel total: 23,344;
November 17-18: 0 words completed on NaNo novel; errands run, family tended, and exercise completed, instead;
November 19: 8,072 words completed; NaNo novel total: 31,416;
November 20: 5,370 words completed; NaNo novel total: 36,786;
November 21: 5,424 words completed; NaNo novel total: 42,210;
November 22: 2,726 words completed; NaNo novel total: 44,936; visitors, very hot day, and lots of fact checking

And that’s where I’m at. It’s Day 23 of NaNoWriMo; my novel started the day at 44,946, and is currently on 46,254 words; I’ve been for a walk, and done the school drop off and a load of washing, and just written this blog post—and, now, it’s back to the novel. I’ll talk about what I learned this NaNo, in next week’s blog.
