In Memoriam: The Starfarers' Graves
The spacefarers had left their dead behind. Alone, but once clearly loved, they rested under cairns of stone, a small stand of pillars with solar-powered holograms that showed the images of who rested beneath them.
Gently, I laid a hand on the earth, touching the space in the centre of the cairns, trying to get a sense of what they’d been, but the ground refused to give up their secrets. That made me frown, puzzling me. Never before had I been refused.
