Bright Red

Written on August 3, 2015, for the April 19 entry of 366 Days of Poetry, this series of cinquains with an odd ending was inspired by the meaning of red, both now and possibly in years to come.

Bright red

shines the morning,

a sunrise warning here,

of rain and storm that is drawing

near.

Bright red

is the flag that flies

o’er China’s soil again,

born in blood and through many wars—

—red flame.

Bright red

in the stars above.

Bright red

the starship’s pain.
