Words from Day 4 of Writing - Lunar Wolves: The Undiscovered

Day 4 went much more smoothly, once I'd fleshed out the outline for the middle of the book to more than one line. Granted, it's only a third fleshed out, and there's more story in this section of plot than I anticipated, but it's more than I had...and more story's not necessarily a bad thing. I might already have the bare bones of the ending, but it's the journey the characters take to get there and its final form that I find most interesting. In the meantime, here are the stats, and an extract for you:

Starting Words: 7,009

Finishing Words: 11,046

Words Written: 4,037

Other Words:  6,595 words

Other Project/Project Aspects Advanced: 1 (work-for-hire)

Excerpt: In which they arrive at Tonenda, and Aylin introduces Oliver to some new friends:

“Are we th—” Oliver began, sliding out of the second bottom bunk and stopping abruptly. “Aylin?”

Ank-Aylin,” Egravek snarled, as Oliver shifted forward, giving the girl a worried look.

Oliver ignored him. “Are you okay?” he asked, his body rippling from human to hybrid form.

That is forbidden, exile,” the larger varanguard rumbled, and Oliver looked him up and down, his lip curling in derision.

“Bite me,” he snapped, and looked back at the girl. “Aylin?”

She giggled. “If I bit you, you’d be horrified.”

“And Ank-Regar would kill him,” Egravek added succinctly, eyeing Oliver with distaste, before turning back to the girl. “Why are you sheltering the exiles?”

“Because the exiles saved me,” she told him simply. “They could have left me to my fate, but they didn’t.”

“No doubt they were hoping for some reward,” the smaller varanguard sneered, taking a step in Oliver’s direction.

The alpha snarled. “Stay right where you are, varanguard.”

He looked around the room, his gaze sweeping dismissively over the bigger bodyguard and coming to rest on the commander to whom he inclined his head. “Hunt Master.”

“You have manners, I’ll give you that. Not much sense, but manners nonetheless,” Egravek observed, then glanced back at his defacto niece. “Care to explain, Aylin. We were told he was one of those responsible for your kidnap.”

“He was,” Aylin said simply, and all three wolves turned to Oliver, their snarls echoing around the cabin. “HOLD!”

The girl’s sharp bark of command had them hesitating, even as Oliver stepped forward to give himself some fighting room.
