The Early Morning Bus

Written on August 3, 2015, for the April 15 entry of 366 Days of Poetry, this piece was inspired by an early morning bus ride.

High rise in the early morning,

white dulled to grey by coming rain,

no life on the balconies

defying winter’s cold.

Yet, below their silent heights,

like beetles, the cars scurry,

early morning drenched in cold

no working man’s deterrent.

I ride the bus safe from winter’s cold,

safe under glass to see

the frozen faces at each stop,

who waited, just like me.
