Short Story Complete! — River’s Edge

On Tuesday, I completed River's Edge, the short story slated for release in August. I wrote it using a technique Dean Wesley Smith calls ‘writing into the dark’—which means I had no idea what kind of story I was writing, when I started. This one ended being mostly science fiction, with a hint of fantasy thrown in, and a dash of first contact and crash colony, and it took a little bit to write, but wound out to 5,839 words long.

Free Read: Forest Connections

Today, I managed to settle down and write a response to the latest flash fiction challenge on Chuck Wendig's Terribleminds blog - The Dead Body . There were only two rules: the word limit was 1,000, and the story had to open with a dead body. This is what came out: Forest Connections The body swayed in the trees rocked by storm winds and illuminated by lightning. It was naked, except for the green, leather gloves it wore on both hands—the hands from which it was suspended from the tree. It might have been an attractive body, if there hadn’t been a gaping wound where its stomach should be. Perhaps… but Garamond wasn’t looking at the body, didn’t notice the slender hips or sculpted chest, the beauty of fine-chiselled cheek bones or luxurious fall of hair. Garamond fought his breakfast back into place, swallowed bile, forced his focus to the other trees in the grove, the ground onto which he’d nearly stepped. An Update, Today's Poetry - Aftermath - and Videos

It's a mixed smorgasbord, today, as I pick up the pieces of the latest bit of Life. I'm working at getting my writing, production, publishing and video schedules back on track.  The Update This week, I made my first submission for the year, and completed a second...although that one's going to need a home. I also dealt with an unexpected work issue that will mean some significant changes on the writing and youtubing front - yes, you will see some more content from both, and finally, I was able to return to working on my novel. This Month's Goals: (Because it's never too late.) 1. Complete Dark God's Rise; and 2. Make 2 more short stor y submissions . It's small potatoes, but I need time to recover, and get an idea of what the new routine looks like . In September, I'll have a better idea of my capabilities.
