“Heads up,” he murmured, touching Lewis’s arm. “Here they come.”

Lewis took one look at the direction they were coming from and his eyes widened. “They were watching us?”

“If we were lucky, that’s all they were doing.”

“You think they have a mic that can pick up at that distance.”

“I’m hoping they’d need a drone, and that as I’m not seeing one, they might.”

“But they know what we are, right?”

Oliver sighed. “Most likely. IR gives an outline and wolves run hot…but let’s see what they have to say, before we go giving them data they might not have.”

Lewis nodded, matching Oliver step for step as they kept walking toward the gate, both pretending they hadn’t seen the half dozen men descending the hill and moving in their direction—or that they didn’t understand the significance of their appearance. One of the two.

The group let them reach the gates, arraying themselves behind the pair as they approached the entry. To Oliver it was like being stalked by a hostile pack. The greeting from the gate guard wasn’t what he wanted to hear, either.

“We wondered when you two would decide to come and say hello.”

Lewis swallowed hard and glanced up. Oliver followed his gaze and noted the wall turret had swiveled to cover them.

He shrugged. “We’re shy. What can I say?”
