2022 Challenge Extracts: Day 3

The challenge continues, with these pieces created at the end of a long day. The first is a science-fantasy piece of flash set in the same world as an existing piece of flash, and the second is a fantasy poem with some unlikely heroes.

Lothar scanned the plains, shifting to ease the discomfort of stony ground as he peered from behind the rocks. Overhead clouds floated, but below? The plains remained empty.

“It’s supposed to come and feed,” he grumbled, releasing his grip on the crossbow long enough to stretch his arm.

“And your people aren’t supposed to know I exist,”
